Hiatus Over: DF Mexico

Back, Back..... I... am.... back!!! After a few weeks of intense work I am finally reunited with my laptop and back on the dining scene.

In about 30 more days I will be returning to Glasgow (where this all began) after what has been a fun filled summer. With that said I dare not leave you without nibbling my way through a few more slices of London!

Last night my weakness for Mexican food lead me (and an equally hungry stomach) to DF Mexico in Shoreditch...Truman's Brewery to be precise. Now I love new openings especially in a part of the city that is known for quirky food joints and laid-back dining.

DF Mexico is just 26 days old (as I type) and is the latest offering from Wahaca founders Thomasina Miers and Mark Selby. A roadtrip inspired take on Mexican/ American fusion. Que Tacos, Burritos and Tortas (albeit NYC Tortas).......but we will get to that shortly!

Weekday.....8pm.....quick table switch (to a cozy corner) and were about ready to see what DF has to offer.

The menu is pretty much what you would expect at a Mexican with a few exciting additions most intriguing being those NYC Tortas I mentioned earlier. We opted to go for a selection (slight understatement) of various dishes and two cheeky margaritas...frozen....with passion-fruit :-)

Unsure of how we felt about the order at the till, pay before you eat service (your eyes are always bigger than your stomach post meal, which we certainly realised)...NB. Cool Self Service Machine

As It Came:

Steak & Cheese 'Alambres'

Beef Nachos

Then that Pork Pibil NYC Torta (I am a sucker for pulled pork so two thumbs up from me, would have appreciated it more alone with a side though, pretty full tummy by now)

Think that was everything minus the Steak guess it was a bit camera shy

Oh...And Those Frozen Margaritas

Our agreed favorite was the Steak & Cheese Alambres super stringy cheese and packed with flavour plus steak and cheese combo never fails to satisfy.

For me DF is more of a quick bite kind of place as the flavours across the menu don't vary to much in other words if you order as much as we did it just become one big Mexican blur infiltrated with some brioche.

For just two we over ordered (even the waitress was surprised how much food was on our table), next time main + side + 2...or 3 margaritas= satisfying Amexcian in the heart of E1
