Babu Bombay Street Kitchen

Blog productivity is on fire at the moment!! Hopefully we keep it up this way :-)

Well here is a post about an unplanned visit we recently made to Babu Kitchen. Now I had previously heard of this place whilst doing a bit of research on the Glasgow food scene but we had actually planned to visit 'Where The Monkey Sleeps'....however that happened to be closing up when we arrived and I turned around and saw this sign...

I guess it was meant to be...

So Alicia wasn't (note past tense Babu's, you changed her mind!!) a fan of Indian food and she wanted us to head to Hummingbird instead seeing as WTMS (see above) was closed. Well me being stubborn as usual said "Well we can check out Babu's first I can get a take out here then we can go to Hummingbird and I will just have drinks". Alicia reluctantly agreed, forcibly, against her grumbling stomach and that's how we ended up in this little gem!

From the moment I walked in I was taken by their laid back street vendor interior and the tempting smell of curries and warm spices. The shop is pretty small but its so cozy and so artsy added that it was a hot day in Glasgow walking in we both felt like we had been transported out of Scotland and into an exotic city (love when a place can do that!)

Now the menu is a little confusing for the unfamiliar eye lots of Indian names that I wasn't sure how to pronounce or what they meant but the lady behind the counter was really helpful and keen to recommend the non-veg option 'Mummy's Chicken' we opted for this in a wrap but you can get it with rice as well.

This was definitely fresh and some good succulent pieces of chicken breast in their. However we did find the coriander, which was sprinkled on by the lady, really overpowered the wrap. I'd defiantly ask her to go easy or leave it out next time so as I don't mask the taste of the chicken.

There was a range of other options veg, non veg, hot and cold. So something for everyone to enjoy.

Their sweets and drinks were also notable...OK maybe notable is an understatement....please DO NOT overlook the 'Pistachio Brownies' Wow(x5)  I mean even if your sweet-tooth is satisfied these brownies are 'The Bomb' haha! The pistachios compliment the chocolate perfectly and gave them a really crunchy texture and they have added cardamon which gave it that intoxicatingly exotic flavour (Me and Alicia are buying the whole tray next time)

I had to try it all and also grabbed one of the Fresh Mango Lassi's before we left. Again thick, refreshing and I think there was some cardamon in there (Nommm). But just delicious.

Priced really well with most things under £7, I spent £9 but got a drink and brownie on top of my main. We are delighted we found this spot and thoroughly enjoyed the vibe, authenticity, the food and the service. One of our highlight eateries not only for the quality of the food but also the value and no-fuss attitude they seem to have.

Sometimes unplanned really does reveal the best things!!

NB: I've heard the Chai Tea has a bit of a following too...Next Time!)
