Well we did just that while ticking off a breakfast must-visit at CafeZique (don't mistake DeliZique their sister....and healthy sister in comparison... next door, we have yet to go there!)
From the moment we stepped in it was clear this was the place to be. It was absolutely bustling (always a good sign), every table was full, the bar too was full but we managed to squeeze into a little spot right in front of the kitchen (picture time!!) while we waited for a table to open up.
We noticed straight away that the head man in the kitchen was actually a woman ( not something you see everyday) we thought it was really different and definitely gave Cafezique that extra edge!
We are given the drinks menu, I choose fresh mint tea and Vanessa got green tea, after about 5 minutes we are taken upstairs.
It was just as packed as down and we were squeezed into a wee table, diners on either side, pole smack-bang to my left...not ideal but saying that Vanessa did have an incredible birds-eye view of all the action down stairs (insert photo opportunity)
After the very busy waiter placed two of their famous £9.95 big breakfasts, some extra Delizique toast and two large (like steak large) slices of luscious french toast accompanied by maple syrup. The waitress had to utilise the balcony ledge to fit in all the goodness.
The big (understatement) breakfast includes Puddledub shoulder bacon, Stornoway black pudding, Aberfoyle butcher pork & herb sausages, organic baked beans, Delizique tattie scone, field mushroom, tomato & Corrie Mains free range eggs with Delizique toast.
By personal preference I wasn't a fan of some of the items but Cafezique does offer you other great accompaniments that you can add or swap! I took off the organic beans, the black pudding and the tomato and swapped for grilled halloumi, spinach, and haggis.
The dish was amazing. Although the sausage was a bit overcooked the seasoning and fresh herbs in it favored the rest of the dish. The toast was cold by the time it had got to us and slightly burnt but the artisan quality of the bread was extremely good.
Needless to say nobody is perfect and the sausage didn't detriment the rest of the dish. The quality of the food was superb and all locally sourced. Atmosphere was great and Zique is clearly popular with the locals. We loved it, ate it all and I ate nothing for the rest of the day. This was indeed a full day breakfast!
NB. Not only does Cafezique do a cracking breakfast they also cater for lunch, dinner and pudding. As Arnold Schwarzenegger said "I'll be back"
