Cookhouse Joe

Slightly neglected the blog for a week! Lots has been happening in London which has been keeping me away for my laptop for any extended period of time.

However I am now back on the ball and returning with a great, tasty and wallet saving restaurant I came across last week.

Now when I think chicken the first three restaurants that pop into my mind are Nandos, KFC (just about counts) and probably my mums kitchen lol.

That was until I visited Cookhouse Joe's in Soho with Alicia for some pre-club lining of the stomach. Note: Prosecco Specials on A Wednesday £10 a bottle (tell me any place in Central London that can top that!)

Tucked just off Oxford Street on the Soho side Cookhouse Joes has a very simple look to it, mix matched wooden chairs (could do with some cushions), exposed walls and unfinished wooden tables. Its clear all the emphasis is on the food here keeping the decor plain and rather unsophisticated.

The menu isn't that extensive but I did like the selection of Lebanese style food...obviously after chicken, hummus caught my eye instantly!

The food is very reasonably priced considering the location making it perfect for quick lunch bites or a hearty meal after a hard days work. Quarter chicken and hummus done me fine when I popped in for the second time last week during a study break.

On that note let's talk portions....When I visited with Alicia it was our first time and we came in on very empty stomachs so we though "Yeh, why not.....whole chicken for the two of us!"..............and then this arrived:

Looks more like two chickens right!!! Our eyes were way bigger than our stomachs and we didn't want to look like we were bursting out of our dresses in the club so we doggy bagged one half and saved it for our 3am munchies (best decision of the night)

The chicken is all free-range (plus points for that) and to be honest I never thought free range chickens could grow so big.....clearly this one was stealing all the feed! It gets served with three sauces of your choice, we like the Garlic one.

To accompany that a generous portion of hummus and extra generous stack of pitta bread (note: the pitta bread did start going hard after a few minutes maybe serving it wrapped it in foil would help, no one likes eating cardboard). Otherwise it was delicious!!!

I really enjoyed this place for the quality of the food and the price. I spent £8 when I dined there alone and £13 when I went with Alicia (but that included wine).

It's not the most comfortable of restaurants and I feel that they should add a daily special or something for more variety but its a good start out.

Drinks are also reasonably priced although there were no cocktails on the menu...hopefully they can make them on request.

It;s one of those places that can easily become one of your local favourites and an instant go to for something to hit-the-spot.

I will definitely be back when I was no-fuss food in a chilled out atmosphere....Over and Out!
