First to catch out attention was it's healthy stash of awards and recognition's from New Restaurant of the Year 2009, Entertainment Awards Scotland 2013, 2014 - Best Restaurant to 2 AA Rosettes 2012/13 and Michelin Guide Recommendation 2012/13.
We also like the fact they use Scottish sourced ingredients from local farmers/ companies which we thought stayed true to their wish to serve 'customers the ultimate in Scottish cuisine'.
We arrived at around 7.30pm and the place was pretty busy...and through the course of the evening they had to turn away spontaneous guests due to a full diary of pre-bookings.
After about 20 minutes of catching up (new jobs, exam stress, holidays) we gave our order to an increasingly impatient waiter...their is a 2 hour turn around so not the venue for a lengthy natter.
First Up Canapes and Appitisers (and there were many): Mahoooosive Marinated Olives, Smoked Haddock Croquettes, Haggis Bon Bons (Amazing!!!), Onion Gougere, Cauliflower Panacotta and a variety of fresh breads.
As these were complimentary we still had three course to go and we began wondering if we would even have space!
Starters: I had Ceviche and Alicia opted for the Velouté of new season peas, crispy ham hough, buttermilk & Parmesan royale.
Mains: Fine herb gnocchi, roasted pumpkin, grilled lettuce, goat’s curd, parmesan veloute
Seared flank of beef (medium), smoked potato, onion, grilled leek, beer sauce.....beef was tender, flavorsome and the beer sauce added a delicious maltiness to the dish.
And Desserts:
Chocolate and Peanut Butter - Peanut butter parfait, chocolate cremeux, caramelised banana
So, £17.95 for 3 courses and plenty of canapes is an amazing deal for such a highly acclaimed restaurant. The offer runs until 31st May otherwise it is normally £20.
